OUR STORY
‘The truth is that I started Baubau when it looked more like a business opportunity and not because I was an animal lover. But then Covid struck and everything changed.‘
Anthony
It was during the first phase of Covid, out of sheer boredom and a need to hustle that Baubau was born. Anthony along with his friend Malaika who is a canine behaviour expert started to put out canine behaviour and pet care related packages online.
After a year when the effects of Covid became routine and people went back to online training and we did a lot of odd jobs with the industry to learn and survive including pet sitting and community work with animals. During this time, there were interactions with animals that made Anthony look at them in a different manner. 3 of these interactions have lead to choose our mascots for the brand.
Meet ‘Mango’ - the smiling doggo’

He gave up a swanky Malabar Hill apartment for the open skies in a public park. Mango was born in PDP, always smiling, always playful. He had both friends and foes. Both human & the four legged kind.
A little stout, yet fast to avoid the unwanted and unloving. Life was good, until… He met this friendly Hooman. The Hooman took him to his place Where Mango got plenty of food, toys & his bed It felt nice for a while…
The Hooman now wanted Mango to stay. He took him to the park only for walks. Mango cried and complained but the Hooman did not let go, so Mango escaped.
Mango kept escaping, they kept bringing him back He got scolded, bribed and punished. Yet he kept running. Finally the Hooman understood and left Mango at the park. Now mango stays at the park, yet he also goes to the Hooman’s place when he chooses to.
The Hooman lets him. They take care of each other.
Meet ‘Dadar’ — The One Who Keeps Her Distance
Dadar once lived in an adoption home. A Sphynx cat — different, unfamiliar, so they chose someone else.
Over time, Dadar stopped waiting, stopped hoping, stopped expecting
anything at all. Now she keeps her distance. She avoids touch, avoids people especially children. Not because she is difficult —
but because she remembers
She prefers quiet spaces. Shrubs, open ground, warm sunlight. She can lie still for hours just watching.
She doesn’t need attention, she needs space and time to trust again.

Meet ‘Nana’ — The One Who Understands Before Speaking
Nana is older.
Life slowed him down in ways that weren’t expected. A heart condition
changed everything.
It took his eyesight but gave him something deeper, awareness.
There’s a small scar near his eye.
A quiet reminder of everything he has been through. Even now nothing is certain but Nana doesn’t rush. He listens before he reacts. He understands before he responds
He doesn’t speak often but when he does it comes from experience, not urgency.
Nana represents resilience, care, and quiet wisdom.

What They Taught Me
Mango, Dadar, and Nana are very different. But together, they shaped one belief: There is no single way to understand a pet.
Some need structure.
Some need space.
Some need patience.
Some need care beyond what is visible.
And most importantly —
every pet deserves to be understood on their own terms.
Why BauBau Exists
BauBau was built on this understanding.
Not just to market pet brands —
but to represent the real relationship between pets and people.
Every service, every campaign, every piece of content is built on one idea:
Understanding comes before execution.
Because without that — everything else is just noise.
Our Mascots
Mango, Dadar, and Nana are not just characters.
They are reflections of real experiences that shaped how we think, create, and build. They continue to guide how BauBau approaches every brand, every story, and every pet.
This is not just our story.
It’s how we understand yours.
